Since its inception, AU Associates, Inc., has been instrumental in preserving more than 20,000 units of housing across the United States, valued at over $23 million, and has been directly responsible for the creation of more than 250 units of mixed income housing and 55,000 square feet of commercial uses in urban infill and adaptive re-use settings, with projects totaling $30 million.
AU Associates, Incorporated, founded in 1990 on the principals of adaptive use, has focused on opportunities for urban infill, as well as the revitalization of existing structures.
President & Owner
Holly Wiedemann
Holly Wiedemann, founding principal and President of AU Associates, Inc., earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Duke University and Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design and Land Use Planning from the University of Georgia. She has been responsible for a wide range of projects throughout her career serving as a Financial Analyst, Project Manager, and Developer. She has specifically worked in the renovation, creation, adaptive reuse, and development of affordable housing since 1986.
Director of Development
Johan Graham
Johan Graham joined AU Associates, Inc. in April of 2006 as the Financial Manager. While involved in all aspects of project conceptualization and development, his primary responsibilities revolve around structuring, underwriting, syndicating and monitoring AU’s current and future portfolio of LIHTC and Historic Tax Credit projects. He is a 2000 graduate of Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky with a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology and a 2002 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Masters in Regional Planning with a focus on Affordable Housing, Real Estate, and Community Development. Prior to joining AU Associates, Johan worked as a Project Development Officer at Community Affordable Housing Equity Corporation (CAHEC), a tax credit syndicator, and was responsible for over $70 million in Low-Income Housing and Historic Tax Credit equity investments totaling over 1,100 units in Kentucky, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
Director of Operations
Martha Dryden
Since re-joining AU Associates, Inc. in January of 2003, Martha has served as Office Administrator, Project Manager, and now currently serves as the company’s Director of Operations. Martha initially became interested in AU’s work during an internship while obtaining her B.S. in Business Administration and Communication Arts from Georgetown College. Once graduating, she gained several experiences in marketing, product management, and information technology before returning to AU. Her duties and responsibilities include managing daily operations, project inception, implementation and management. Project Assistant Jai Swann A recent transplant from Atlanta, Georgia, Jai joined AU Associates in December 2009. He brings a background in insurance licensing with Financial Services Corporation (FSC) in Atlanta and Manulife Financial in Boston to his current role at AU. He attended University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he studied communications and music theory. Jai's responsibilities include general office administration, bookkeeping, and graphic arts marketing.
Development Associate
Joseph Klare
Joey joined AU Associates Inc. in 2010 after a yearlong internship with the company. Working with many different parts of the project development process, Joey’s primary responsibilities involve new project acquisition and development, Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit application preparation, National Register of Historic Places Nominations, and assisting with construction management. Joey attended graduate school at the University of Kentucky where he studied Historic Preservation with a focus on rehabilitation and redevelopment strategies after receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, also from the University of Kentucky. He also holds a Transportation Systems Management certificate from the Kentucky Transportation Center in the University of Kentucky’s College of Engineering.
